Pseudo-Random Interesting Stuff

The pseudo only applies to random in the title not to interesting ;-)

Linked in report on Jobs & Salaries for 2017.  Highlights:
  • STEM jobs pay the best
  • Highest paid undergrad = CS (shocker), highest paid grad degree = MD (even bigger shocker haha)
  • San Fran & Seattle are tops for overall pay...NYC no longer tops

Finally there’s a new approved therapy for Cancer (leukemia) that isn’t just radiation and chemo. I have seen many amazing sounding therapies but all were in experimental phase (such as 2nd link), I can't recall every seeing one finally get approved...hope this is the 1st of many!

Now on to a Quora topic on fave math puzzles...I only took a close look at 1, this one below is very cool.  I was too tired to really dig into it so gave an educated guess, it's nearly the right answer but there is an answer a bit better but requires quite a bit more thinking and imagination to come up with it.

The rest are here, some maybe good for little kids but most better for high school kids or us grown ups

Preview of Black Mirror Season 4

Saturday, August 26, 2017
While it is true the eps of this show can vary quite a bit in quality, I think even the worst ones are better than a lot of shows and the best ones like S3's San Junipero or Most Hated are priceless gems!

More on the Future of Jobs

Friday, August 4, 2017
Some more insights into an important topic for us and especially our kids.  But his comment on sustainable jobs, has a nice ring to it but I don't think there are any, sure some jobs like lawyers\doctors\bankers have stuck around for a long time but the distant future is likely to antiquate them as well.  New jobs are being created for now this is true and so for those who's fields have been wiped out have little choice but to migrate to them but I'm not convinced even that trend will continue.

Again I see a hopefully rising Universal Income being the only realistic solution, once 3D printing then Nanotechnology can build anything from the atom up...for fractions of a penny, not sure there would even need to be an Economy any more much less jobs ;-)  But there's going to be a few decades between us and this potential future so until then gotta earn however you can!
